The Lagos State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, Oluyinka Olumide, has denied allegations that the ongoing demolition by the state government is targeting individuals from the South-Eastern region.
He clarified that the demolished buildings lacked approvals from the appropriate agencies and were hastily constructed during the COVID-19 lockdown in 2020.
Olumide emphasized that the demolitions were not targeted at any specific ethnic group, and any building with proper approvals would not be demolished.
He urged owners of the demolished structures to come forward with their building approvals if they exist.
The government’s focus is on removing illegal structures, especially those obstructing drainage systems.
