After emerging victorious at the Supreme Court, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano state has offered a hand of friendship to his rival, Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna, the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate.
The Nation reports that Yusuf, who won on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, on Saturday, January 13, invited Gawuna and the APC strongest opposition in the state, to join him in the task of steering and developing the state.
In a jubilant mood, the governor extended this gesture of reconciliation while addressing reporters in Abuja.
For about seven months, Yusuf has been in court in defence of his poll victory, losing at the tribunal and Court of Appeal only to triumph at the apex court.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima for their impartiality. He highlighted with satisfaction the president’s refusal to intervene in the Supreme Court judgment, despite facing pressure from various quarters.

He said: “As a true democrat and progressive, I call on my opponent and his supporters to join hands with me in the crusade of developing our dear state, Kano, for the betterment of its teeming citizens.
The people of Kano need leaders with vision, passion, zeal and commitment to initiate projects, policies and programmes that have a direct bearing on their lives in all facets and across nooks and crannies of the state,” Yusuf said.
The governor thanked God for his victory and commended the people of Kano for their “support, steadfastness, prayers, sacrifices, and brevity.”
He praised the judiciary and expressed gratitude to the Supreme Court judges for upholding the glory of the judiciary by affirming his election.
Governor Yusuf thanked NNPP leaders at all levels, giving a special tribute to the leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Sen. Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso for his guidance and support during the trying period.
