In a final and decisive ruling, the Supreme Court has rejected the appeal filed by Ovie Omo-Agege, the former deputy senate president, challenging the election victory of Sheriff Oborevwori as the governor of Delta State.

The five-member panel of the apex court unanimously held that Omo-Agege failed to substantiate the allegations of non-compliance with the Electoral Act during the conduct of the March 18 poll.

This dismissal upholds the Independent National Electoral Commission’s, INEC, declaration of Oborevwori, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP,m candidate, as the rightful winner of the governorship election.

The dispute arose when, in March 2023, INEC announced Oborevwori as the victor, triggering petitions from various candidates, including Omo-Agege of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Ken Pela of the Labour Party,LP, and Kenneth Gbagi of the Social Democratic Party, SDP.

Despite their appeals, both the governorship tribunal and the court of appeal had previously dismissed the challenges to Oborevwori’s election.
