Protest broke out in Lafia after the Supreme Court judgment that upheld the victory of Abdullahi Sule as the governor of Nasarawa State.
The Lafia-Jos highway linking Makurdi and other North East was completely blocked as the protesters barricaded the only high linking other parts of the country, burning tyres along the road.
Banks, shops and other business centres, as well as schools within the Lafia metropolis, have abruptly closed.

Residents in a panic called for the deployment of more security operatives to restore calm in the state.

Reports claims that, the mob has been chanting war songs, alleging that the judgement delivered by the Supreme Court was induced by some prominent monarch some days ahead of the declaration.
The Supreme Court, in a unanimous ruling by a five-member panel had earlier affirmed Sule of the All Progressives Congress, as the winner of the governorship election held in the state on March 18, 2023.
In its main decision, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun dismissed the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party and its candidate, David Ombugadu, as lacking in substance.
