A male passenger has been confirmed dead in an accident involving three vehicles at Uzoakwa along Ihiala-Owerri Road, Anambra State.

The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, in Anambra, Mr Adeoye Irelewuyi confirmed the incident to journalists in Awka on Thursday.

Irelewuyi disclosed that the accident was caused by wrongful overtaking and over speeding.

He explained that the crash involved unidentified drivers of a Nissan commercial bus with registration number: JJT-57XX, a Trailer with no registration number, and a Mack Trailer, also with no registration number.

Per the eyewitness, the bus driver stopped in front of universal bakery and was discharging passengers, while the two trailers were coming from behind on speed trying to overtake each other.

“As a result, the Mark trailer hit the bus, pushing it to an electric pole and the two trailers continued their journey without stopping.

“A total of 17 persons, comprising 13 male adults, four female adults were involved in the crash.

The Sector Commander of the FRSC sympathised with the family of the dead and wished the injured quick recovery.

He further urged motorists to desist from wrongful overtaking and drive within a safe speed limit they could control.

Irelewuyi also advised commercial vehicles to park away from the road where it is safe to discharge passengers.
