UNILORIN expels 14 undergraduates for exam malpractices

The management of the University of Ilorin, UNILORIN, has expelled 14 students of the institution for alleged examination malpractices.

Nine names were published in the first batch of those expelled, including Lateef Lukman Olayemi, Kuranga Abdulmuiz Olalekan, Adebisi Janet Bosede and Ogundijo Abdulmalik Akinkunmi.

Also expelled are Ashekun Oladiji Quadri, Eqwudah Lucky Ojonumba, Musa Mohammed Asuku, Ahmed Saddam Opeyemi and Ayinla Jamiu Olaitan.

The expelled students were drawn from 500, 400, 300 and 100 Levels.

University’s Director of Corporate Affairs, Mr Kunle Akogun in a statement disclosed that the vice chancellor’s approval of the expulsion of the affected students was sequel to the recommendations of the Students’ Disciplinary Committee at its 219th meeting held on Wednesday and Thursday, January 10 and 11, 2024.

It explained that the affected students were drawn from  the Faculties/Departments of Agriculture/Aquaculture and Fisheries; Agriculture/Agricultural Extension and Rural Development; Arts/Linguistics and Nigerian Languages; Library and Information Science, Telecommunication Science; Education/Adult and Primary Education Studies; Engineering and Tech/Electrical and Electronic Engineering; Engr and Tech/ Materials and Metallurgical Engineering as well as Life Science/Zoology.

Meanwhile, the Senate and the Congregation of the institution have elected two representatives and one representative respectively into the University Governing Council.

Credible News gathered that the Congregation elected Mr. Dauda as a Deputy Director at the Academic Planning Unit of the University to replace Mr. Mansur Adeleke Alfanla, who was appointed as the Chief Administrative Officer of the University last year, while the Senate elected Prof. R. F. Bello and Prof. U. A. Raheem.

Prof. Bello, teaches at the Department of Economics as well as a former Dean, Postgraduate School, University of Ilorin, while Prof. Usman of the Department of Geography and Environmental Management is the penultimate Chairman of the University’s Chapter of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU.
