About three years after he fled the country, Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, the embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, has returned to Nigeria.
Olayomi Koiki, the spokesperson for Igboho, verified that the activist had come back to the nation to attend his mother’s funeral in a statement posted on the X page on Thursday, February 22.
“I can confirm that Chief Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, is currently on his way to Igboho Town for his mother’s final burial, MRS. S.A.ADEYEMO,” the writer wrote.

A few hours ago, the body of MRS. S.A. ADEYEMO was removed from the SAKI TOWN mortuary.
In another video that Koiki shared, Igboho was seen with a few individuals who appeared to be at the mortuary.
Recall that in 2021 that Igboho was arrested by the security forces in the Benin Republic about three weeks after the Department of State Services, DSS, declared him wanted for allegedly stockpiling arms, an allegation he has since denied.
He was arrested at the Cardinal Bernardin International Airport in Cotonou, Benin Republic while attempting to flee to Germany.
However, in October 2023, Igboho revealed that he was legally free to leave Cotonou for Nigeria and other countries.
Sunday Igboho regained freedom after two years of trial in Benin Republic.
