Councillor Achor Nna, who represents Ward 9 in the Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, has officially resigned from his role as the Leader of the Legislative Council.

Reports from the News Agency of Nigeria, indicate that it’s noteworthy that Mr. Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, hails from the same ward.

His resignation letter dated March 7, 2024, addressed to Mrs. Rosemary Brown, the Clerk of the House, Achor Nna officially announced his decision to step down from his role as a lawmaker in Obio/Akpor. Notably, Nna declared his support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara, who is generally perceived as a political rival to Nyesom Wike.

The letter read in part: ‘’this resignation is borne out of my personal conviction to align with the truth in the face of the current political issues in Rivers’’.

He attributed his action to “unwarranted intimidation, marginalisation, coercion, bullying, and arm-twisting from the leaders of the Obio/Akpor Local Government.

“I want to align with progressive minds to liberate and develop Rivers. Let it be known that this resignation will never negate my earlier resolve to work in consonance with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope,” he said.
