Just a minute after Ezekiel’s goal, the Nigerian forwards kept up the pressure, causing the Senegalese defense to make a critical mistake. Aiche Kalas accidentally scored an own goal, inadvertently sending the ball into her team’s net.
Nigeria didn’t stop there. Forward Oliseh added another goal, securing the fourth for Nigeria in the 81st minute. Before this match, the Christopher Danjuma-led team entered the game with high spirits after defeating Morocco 2-0 in their first match on March 8. This win further boosted their confidence and determination to succeed in the tournament. Nigeria, the defending champions, find themselves in Group B for the tournament, alongside Morocco, Senegal, and Cameroon. On the other hand, hosts Ghana, along with Ethiopia, Tanzania, and Uganda, make up Group A.
The Falconets have a strong history in the tournament, having clinched the gold medal in the women’s football event of the 12th African Games held in Rabat, Morocco in 2019. The 13th African Games, which began on March 8, will continue until March 23 in Ghana, spanning three cities: Accra, Kumasi, and Cape Coast. Nigeria’s Falconets aim to maintain their winning streak and defend their title in this prestigious event.
