Singer-songwriter Eric Carmen, renowned for his hit song “All By Myself,” has passed away at the age of 74, as announced by his wife.
Eric Carmen, the US star, gained prominence with the power pop group the Raspberries before carving out a successful solo career, BBC reports.
One of his most iconic solo hits, “Hungry Eyes,” featured in the 1987 cult movie classic “Dirty Dancing.” In a statement on his official website, Carmen’s wife Amy announced his passing, revealing that he died peacefully in his sleep over the weekend. She expressed that it brought him immense joy to know that his music had touched the lives of many over the decades and would be his enduring legacy.

Amy concluded the statement with a poignant quote from Carmen’s 1977 solo album “Boats Against The Current”: “love is all that matters… faithful and forever.” Eric Carmen, hailing from Ohio, co-founded the Raspberries in the early 1970s, alongside Jim Bonfanti and Wally Bryson. Dave Smalley later joined the band after John Aleksic’s departure.
Their debut album, “Raspberries,” released in 1972, featured chart-topping tracks like “Go All The Way.” The song faced controversy and was banned by the BBC in the UK for its suggestive lyrics. Interestingly, it found a resurgence when it was included in the 2014 “Guardians Of The Galaxy” soundtrack.
After four successful albums, the band disbanded in 1975, leading Carmen to pursue a solo career. One of his standout solo tracks is “All By Myself,” which later became a sensational hit for Canadian singer Celine Dion when she covered it.
Eric Carmen’s musical influence extended beyond his own performances. His songwriting prowess delivered hits like “Almost Paradise” from the “Footloose” soundtrack, showcasing his ability to craft memorable tunes. Additionally, tracks like “Never Gonna Fall In Love Again” and “Make Me Lose Control” further solidified his reputation as a gifted songwriter in the music industry. His contributions transcended his own performances, leaving a lasting impact on popular culture.
