African Games: Nigeria Olympic Committee praises Team Nigeria’s outstanding performance

 The Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, on Monday, praised Team Nigeria’s outstanding performance at the recently concluded 13th African Games in Ghana.

In a statement, NOC Public Relations Officer Tony Nezianya acknowledged Team Nigeria’s selfless contributions, as well as media and government support, in ensuring a memorable event at the Games.

Nigeria finished second behind Egypt, with 120 medals, including 47 gold, 33 silver, and 40 bronze, Credible News reports.

“It is with immense pleasure and great admiration that the NOC extends its heartfelt congratulations to every member of Team Nigeria on their performance at the African Games,” he stated.

NOC President, Habu Gumel, in the statement, said that it was through dedication and hard work that the team emerged the overall second.

“Your exceptional achievements and unwavering dedication during these Games have brought immense pride and glory to our nation.

“The 13th African Games hold a special place in history as it is the first time since the commencement of the Games in 1965 that they have been held in three cities ,Kumasi, Cape Coast, and Accra.

“This unique and momentous occasion provided a platform for athletes from across the continent to showcase their talent and camaraderie.

“While Team Nigeria secured a commendable second place overall, behind Egypt, it is your outstanding accomplishments and relentless pursuit of excellence that truly captured our hearts.

“You demonstrated unwavering dedication, resilience and the true spirit of sportsmanship throughout the competition.

“We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation to all the athletes, coaches, and Nigerian sports journalists who worked harmoniously to ensure the success of the Games.

“Your tireless efforts, commitment, and cooperation contributed to the seamless organisation and smooth execution of the events, leaving an indelible mark on the Games’ history. We must also acknowledge and thank the Government, particularly the Minister, Sen. John  Enoh, for his relentless support and commitment toward ensuring the welfare of the athletes and officials, ” he said.

Gumel said that the Sports Minister’s unwavering dedication and efforts to fulfill his promises reflected his genuine concern for Nigerian athletes and their well-being.

“Team Nigeria, your remarkable achievements at the 13th African Games serve as an inspiration and testament to the immense talent and potential that exists within our great nation. Your exceptional performance has brought not only pride but also renewed hope and belief in the future of Nigerian sports.

“While the journey to success is not without challenges, your unwavering determination, discipline, and teamwork enabled you to overcome obstacles and reach new heights.

“On behalf of a grateful nation, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to every member of Team Nigeria for your outstanding performances at the 13th African Games,” he said.

Gumel said that Team Nigeria had made the country proud, while the nation also anticipated better performances in future competitions,” he stated.
