Tension grips the streets of Kaduna State’s capital as law enforcement officers confront members of the banned Islamic Movement of Nigeria, commonly referred to as Shiites, who are staging a procession in the city center.
The clash between police operatives and Shiite demonstrators has plunged the area into pandemonium, raising concerns over escalating tensions and the potential for violence.
The IMN members had gathered along the Katsina roundabout by Ahmadu Bello Way before the police arrived and tried to disperse them.
This has created panic and fear among the residents particularly those whose shops are located along the Ahmadu Bello Way. Many were said to have closed their shops for fear of being caught in the fracas.
The police in Kaduna said the IMN has been proscribed by the Federal Government and that their gathering today is against the ban on unlawful assembly.

He also said that the IMN members attacked the police with dangerous weapons when they attempted to disperse them, stating that some policemen sustained injuries.
The police PRO further explained that some suspects in possession with dangerous weapons have been arrested and will be charged to court upon completion of investigation.
This is not the first time that the IMM members are holding public procession despite their proscription by the Federal Government under former President Muhammadu Buhari.
