President Bola Tinubu has commended the Southeast leaders for their efforts in peace-building and strengthening democratic governance in the region.
He made these remarks during the burial of Deaconess Theresa Omoke, the mother of his Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, South East, Chioma Nweze, in Okposi, Ohaozara Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.
Represented by Works Minister Dave Umahi, President Tinubu praised the deceased for her exemplary virtues and encouraged Mrs. Nweze and the Omoke family to find solace in her accomplishments. Additionally, he applauded Governor Francis Nwifuru for his contributions to peacebuilding and development in Ebonyi State.
“You have taken every challenge of Ebonyi State as the challenge of the people, and you have raised the bar in advancing the People’s Charter of Needs of Ebonyi State,” Tinubu said.
Umahi, according to a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Uchenna Orji, revealed that plans were at an advanced stage for a public appreciation of the President’s positive disposition toward the Southeast.
The minister said: “I want to send a message of thanks from Mr. President to the people of Southeast for their support
“I want to thank the governors and appreciate them for their support which is beyond party lines.

“In a very short moment, leaders of Southeast will come together to openly, publicly, and heartily appreciate Mr. President, and let Nigerians and the world know that we stand with the Renewed Hope agenda of Mr. President.”
Umahi also used the occasion to clear the air on the funding of the rehabilitation of the 11.8 kilometre Third Mainland Bridge, Lagos.
The Minister stated that the restoration, which included resurfacing the upper deck and the underwater structural fortification of the bridge, was entirely the responsibility of the Federal Government, even if he acknowledged the cooperation of the Lagos State Government.
Many of the 34-year-old bridge’s users, who had to spend hours stuck in traffic on alternate routes since it was closed on January 9, expressed their gratitude for the bridge’s reopening last Thursday.
Umahi declared, “The Lagos State Government did not build the Third Mainland Bridge. No, President Ahmed Tinubu gave the Federal Government instructions to carry out the task.
“The Ministry of Works, an agency of the federal government, handled all aspects of funding.”
