The Police Command in Nasarawa State says it has received uniforms and other materials from the proscribed Kungiya Zaman Lafia, a nomad vigilance group.
The state Police Public Relations Officer DSP Ramhan Nansel in a statement on Sunday in Lafia, disclosed that the vigilante complied with the Executive Order 1, 2024, on proscription of ethnic vigilance groups and similar organisations.
He said that the order directed all proscribed groups to hand over all uniforms and other kits in their possessions to the police within two weeks from the day the executive order was issued.
The police spokesperson said that the police received 267 pairs of uniforms, 102 pieces of black belts and 189 pieces of infantry lanyards from the group.
Nansel listed other items the command received from the group include 564 black berets, 339 pieces of black and white lanyards and two identification cards.
Nansel quoted the state Commissioner of Police, Mr Umar Nadada, as urging the Eggon Vigilante, Bassa Vigilante and other proscribed groups to comply with the executive order before expiration of the ultimatum.
He said that the police would ensure total enforcement of the order.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa issued the executive order on April 15 after it was widely reported that the President of Miyetti Allah Kautal Hore, Bello Bodejo had registered a vigilance group in the state.
Last week, the Federal Government arraigned Bodejo at a Federal High Court, Abuja on a three-count charge bordering on terrorism.
Bodejo, who was arrested on Jan. 23 in Malia, Nasarawa State and kept in the custody of the Defence Intelligence Agency was arraigned before Justice Inyang Ekwo.
He was accused of raising an armed militia, an act deemed detrimental to the nation’s unity contrary to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
