The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission, KWSIEC, has fixed September 21, 2024 for the Local Government Council Elections.
KWSIEC made the announcement in a statement issued on Thursday by its Chairman, Okanla Baba who announced that the Local Government Council Elections will be held across the 16 local government areas.
“Arrangements are being put in place to make this happen within the set date. We will give further breakdown on the election Time Table of activities soon, all things being equal.

“We urge all stakeholders to follow our public communications, updates, and get ready for the elections within the time frame,” Okanla stated.
Credible News recalls that election into the local councils in Kwara state was last conducted by the administration of the former governor, Abdulfattah Ahmed in October 2017. The councils were dissolved by the Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq in July 2019.
Following the development, the local government administration in the 16 councils in Kwara State is at present being run by the Transition Implementation Committees appointed by Abdulrazaq in 2019.
In October 2023, the State House of Assembly received the Local Government Electoral Amendment Bill 2023 from governor Abdulrazaq for passage.
