Three people were reportedly burnt to death when their vehicle collided with a truck in the Iyana-Isolo area of Lagos State on Sunday night.

The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Monday, who disclosed that the accident happened at about 11 pm.

He stated that a preliminary investigation by the LASEMA team revealed that a Benz car that was reportedly speeding rammed into a 40ft container-laden truck.

The impact of the collision was said to have led to a fire which led to three male victims of the accident burnt beyond recognition.

The LASEMA boss said “in its swift and prompt response to emergencies and disasters, the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, deployed its response team at Cappa Base, Oshodi, to a distress call regarding a road traffic accident at Iyana-Isolo inward Oshodi at about 2330hrs of Sunday night, May 26, 2024.

“Consequent upon arrival at the scene of the incident, it was discovered that a Benz car, while on top speed, rammed into a truck laden with a 40ft container.

“The impact of the collision resulted in a fire outbreak with passengers trapped inside the Benz car. Further enquiry revealed the truck driver fled the scene immediately after the incident occurred. Unfortunately, three adult males were burnt beyond recognition.”

He added that emergency responders were able to dampen the fire and evacuate the vehicles off the road to avoid a secondary disaster.
