Just In: Youths protest EFCC’s invasion of Ondo State clubs

Youths in their hundreds on Monday morning took to the streets of Akure, Ondo State protesting the weekend’s raid of several hotels and event centre in the state capital by the operatives of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, EFCC.

Operatives of the EFCC had on Saturday raided Signature and Abah Clubs in the Alagbaka area of Akure, Ondo State where 127 suspected internet fraudsters were arrested during a “Yahoo Party”.

Though the anti-graft agency’s Ibadan Zonal Directorate had reacted, claiming that it arrested 127 persons who were suspected internet fraudsters.

Armed with placards with various inscriptions, the angry youth converged at the Alagbaka Roundabout of the ancient city, and moved round the major streets of the state capital to register their displeasure over the raid.

One of the protesters, Oluwaseun Ogunmola, told journalists during the protest that the raid by EFCC officials was in disobedience to its ban on night operation.

He called for unconditional release of those arrested during the but nothing incriminating were found on them.

Another protester, Tobi Akinnubi told newsmen during the peaceful protest that “In Nigeria now, youths cannot use phone, laptop, they can’t drive cars because EFCC ses them as fraudsters.

“Our ladies who have been taken away, do they commit any offence? This is purely brutality. Enough is enough and we must put an end to this.

“We demand justice on this actions, the Federal Government should please look into this case because we can’t continue like this.”

The protesters converged on First Bank Roundabout as early as 7am and walked through A’ Division through NEPA and to the Governor’s office expressing their disgust about brutality meted out to the clubbers.
