A Federal High Court sitting in Kano has nullified the reappointment of Muhammadu Sanusi II as the 16th Emir of Kano.
Presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Liman Thursday declared that all actions carried out after passage of the Kano Emirate Council Repeal Law 2024 are null and void.
The Kano State House of Assembly last month re-enacted the Chieftaincy law abolishing the creation of five emirates which paved the way for the return of Sanusi to the throne.
Justice Liman further ordered all parties to maintain the status quo ante.
Additionally, the court has granted the respondents’ application for a stay of proceedings, pending the hearing and determination of a related case on jurisdiction at the Court of Appeal.
The case has been transferred to Federal High Court 3 for further proceedings.
