The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, has intercepted a significant shipment of illicit drugs in Lagos, seizing 60 jumbo bags of Ghanaian Loud cannabis, totaling 2,400 kilograms.
The drugs were discovered during an operation on the Lagos waterways where NDLEA’s Marine Command played a crucial role.
Retired Brig. Gen. Buba Marwa, NDLEA Chairman, commended the bravery of the officers involved by awarding them special promotions and commendations. The eight officers recognized for their exceptional performance include Dick Aaron Dick, Alabi Mayowa, Gabriel Ubokikwan, Aso Daniel John, Abdul Emmanuel Sule, Ngabolo Victor Sonpano, Jonah Emmanuel Sule, and Membe Gabriel.
Marwa highlighted the significance of the operation, which took place in the early hours of August 23. acting on actionable intelligence, the Marine Command intercepted a boat carrying the illicit cargo along Alfa Beach in Lekki, Lagos. Despite facing aggressive resistance, the officers successfully seized the drugs, arrested a Ghanaian suspect, and impounded a boat equipped with three outboard engines.

The NDLEA Chairman praised the officers for their resilience and professionalism, emphasizing that the operation not only disrupted normal trafficking routes but also demonstrated the agency’s effective control over maritime drug smuggling. This successful operation is part of ongoing reforms within the NDLEA, aimed at enhancing performance and rewarding dedicated service.
Marwa noted that the agency’s Marine Command, bolstered with advanced training and equipment, has become a formidable force against drug traffickers. The recent successes underscore the NDLEA’s commitment to securing all routes against illicit drug activities, including land, sea, and air.
