In the early hours of the morning, a fire broke out at the Lagos State Government Staff Quarters on Odunsanmi Street, off WEMPCO Road in Ogba. The incident occurred in Flat 5 of Block 21, a three-story building with 16 two-bedroom apartments.
Dr. Oluwafemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed the incident in a statement. According to Oke-Osanyintolu, LASEMA received distress calls at around 2:39 a.m. through the agency’s 767 and 112 emergency lines.
LASEMA’s response team, coordinated from the command and control center in Alausa, quickly mobilized to the scene. Upon arrival, they found that the fire had engulfed the children’s bedroom in the two-bedroom apartment. Initial investigations revealed that the fire was caused by a power surge in the children’s room.

Thanks to the swift and coordinated efforts of LASEMA, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, the fire was contained before it could spread to other parts of the building. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities reported, though the children’s bedroom was completely destroyed, resulting in property damage worth millions of naira.
In the aftermath of the incident, LASEMA officials took the opportunity to educate the building’s occupants on the safe use of electrical appliances to prevent future occurrences.
