President Bola Tinubu has accepted the memo from Ajuri Ngelale his spokesman and Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, informing him of his resignation for personal and health reasons.

A statement on Saturday by the presidency noted that the President accepted Ngelale’s reasons for the resignation, fully understood them and sympathised with the circumstances that led to his decision.

While extending his prayers and best wishes to Ngelale and his family, the President hoped for a speedy recovery and full restoration to the health of the challenged members of his family.

He noted Ngelale’s efforts and dedication in serving the nation, and thanked him for his contributions, especially in advancing national discourse and leading efforts on climate action and other key initiatives.

“The President wishes him well in all his future endeavours.

“During this period, we kindly ask that the wish for privacy of Chief Ngelale and his family be respected,” read the statement.

Ajuri had earlier announced his decision to step down from his roles within the Presidency citing family related reasons.

He disclosed this in a statement on Saturday, linking his decision to family medical concerns.

Ajuri who doubles as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, and Chairman, of the Presidential Steering Committee on Project Evergreen, said his choice was based on undisclosed pressing health issues.

Ngelale previously served as the presidential senior special adviser on public affairs to former President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as a spokesperson for the Ahmed Bola Tinubu presidential campaign council during the 2023 Nigerian presidential elections.

Prior to his political appointments, he worked as a senior reporter and presenter at Africa Independent Television and Channels Television.

In politics, Ngelale played a role in highlighting Tinubu positively among Nigerians and the international community through his press releases and media interviews.

Another significant role he played under Tinubu was as Special Presidential Envoy on Climate Action, a position created to advance the federal government’s climate and green economic initiatives.
