No fewer than 21 persons were reportedly crushed to death in an accident along Kaduna expressway on Thursday.
It was learnt that the accident involved a trailer and a passenger Humer bus heading for Kano and Batsari town in Katsina state.
An official of the Federal Road Safety Commission who participated in the rescue operation said three passengers who survived the accident were rushed to the Umaru Musa memorial hospital in Sabon-Wuse town, for medical attention, while the remains of the victims were deposited at the hospital’s morgue.
He noted that the accident took place close to a route diversion that forced all motorists from the two opposite directions to drive on single lane.
It was gathered that the driver of the articulated vehicle had fled the scene, leaving behind his vehicle along with another container truck, blocking the ever busy way.
There was report of traffic buildup from two axis of the expressway as at the time of filing this report.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Tafa Division, S.P Idris Ibrahim equally confirmed the incident.
Incidents of articulated vehicles wrecking havoc on the highways have become worrisome as the records keep getting higher.

Recall that in June, more than four persons were crushed to death and several others injured in Nyanyan, a suburb of Abuja after an articulated vehicle laden with bags of fertilizer plowed into an Honda Accord car and mangled it beyond recognition.
All the four occupants of the car were killed instantly.
Eye witnesses said the tragedy, which caused a gridlock on the Abuja-Keffi Road, occurred after the trailer suffered a break system failure and lost control while descending the Kugbo Hill.
Also in May, 18 travellers lost their lives in a crash on the Umuahia-Enugu axis of the Port Harcourt Enugu Highway.
It was gathered that the accident occurred at a police checkpoint around the Lokpanta area of Abia State in the wee hours of today.
An 18-seater commercial bus was at the checkpoint awaiting police clearance when a truck driver lost control and rammed into them killing the driver and all the passengers.
