Retired Lt.-Gen. Theophilus Danjuma, former Minister of Defence and Chief of Army Staff, has called on the current Service Chiefs to intensify efforts in eradicating terrorism and banditry across Nigeria.

Speaking at the launch of “Big Boots: Lessons from My Military Service”, a book written by retired Maj.-Gen. Solomon Uduonwa, Danjuma said that the nation must urgently be returned to peace, leaving no room for excuses.

He noted that insecurity remains the country’s primary challenge and urged the military leadership to accelerate their efforts.

He praised the author’s exemplary military career and the armed forces’ effective pension management, but reiterated the need for a decisive end to the violence affecting the nation.

Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa reassured Danjuma and the public that the armed forces are committed to restoring peace and security. He affirmed that the military is dedicated to upholding values of service, integrity, and honor, stating, “we cannot afford to fail, and we will not fail.”

Retired Maj.-Gen. Uduonwa said his motivation for writing ‘Big Boots’ was to pass down his experiences to younger military personnel. He highlighted the importance of documenting military experiences for future generations to learn strategic and operational management.

The book title, ’Big Boots’, was inspired by the author’s large feet, which he humorously associated with overcoming bullies in his youth and later symbolizing his efforts to stamp out threats to national security during his military career.

Present at the event were several prominent military figures, including former service chiefs like Lt.-Gen. Tukur Buratai, Gen. Lucky Irabor, and Lt.-Gen. Faruk Yahaya, as well as other retired and serving officers.
