A 40-year-old man, Jibrin Adamu, tragically committed suicide by hanging in Jigawar Maroka village, located in Kiyawa Local Government Area of Jigawa State.
The incident was confirmed by the Police Public Relations Officer in Jigawa, DSP Lawan Shiisu, through a statement issued in Dutse.
Shiisu disclosed that Adamu, who reportedly suffered from mental illness, committed suicide on Thursday evening. His lifeless body was found hanging from the ceiling of a classroom in the Miftahul Khairat Islamiyya and Primary School, Gurdiba.
Upon receiving the report, the Divisional Police Officer of Kiyawa and his team immediately responded to the scene, where they found Adamu’s body. The deceased was transported to Dutse General Hospital, where he was officially declared dead by a medical doctor. His remains have since been released to his family for burial.
Preliminary investigations disclosed that Adamu had struggled with periodic mental health challenges, often disappearing for days before returning home.

Credible News recalls that in August, a 35-year-old man, identified as Emmanuel Urhobocha died by suicide in his apartment on Alafia Street in Sango-Ota, located in the Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Command confirmed that the incident took place on Friday, August 30th, just days after a 32-year-old man, Olúwaṣeun Shorinola died by suicide in the Kémta area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on August 28, 2024.
The command’s spokesperson, Odutola Omolola, disclosed that the deceased’s roommate, identified as Obabiyi David, had gone to the Sango-Ota Police Division to report that his flat mate was acting irrationally.
“He (David) stated that Urhobocha was behaving oddly and even mentioned that the deceased had attacked him with a knife at one point. David sustained injuries but managed to escape the assault,” Odutola stated.
This unfortunate incidents has highlighted the importance of mental health awareness and support.
