Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has announced the extension of free education to senior secondary students in public schools across the state.

The announcement, made during a meeting with principals and head teachers in Awka, builds upon Soludo’s earlier promise of free and compulsory education from nursery to junior secondary school under the Solution Free Education policy.

Previously, senior secondary students in public schools paid a tuition fee of N5,000. However, Soludo declared that the free education program will now cover all students in senior secondary, effective next week. He also directed that students who have already paid their fees for the current term should receive refunds.

This initiative is part of a broader educational reform strategy that includes previous measures to provide free education from nursery through junior secondary school. The governor noted that this comprehensive approach has already seen an 18% increase in enrollment in public schools since its inception. With the introduction of free education at the senior secondary level, officials expect further increases in student numbers, which could enhance educational outcomes across the state.

This initiative aims to broaden access to education and enhance the development of students’ talents, mental capacities, and physical abilities. The governor reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to human capital development despite budget constraints, promising continued efforts to uplift education standards in the state.

In addition to the free education program, Soludo announced that his government will implement a new minimum wage of N70,000 for workers, starting in October. He highlighted the importance of these policies in improving the quality of life for students and workers alike, emphasizing that education and economic welfare remain top priorities for his administration.

Governor Soludo’s declaration of free education for senior secondary students marks a pivotal moment in Anambra’s educational landscape, promising to enhance access to quality education and foster socio-economic growth within the state.
