Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Usman Ododo has urged members of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers, GOCOP, to adopt a patriotic approach in their reporting, particularly regarding security issues affecting the country.
He emphasized that a secure environment is essential for effective practice in journalism. Represented by his deputy, Elder Joel Salifu, Governor Ododo made these comments during the 8th Annual Conference of GOCOP held in Lokoja, themed “Nigeria: Tackling Insecurity, Power Deficit, and Transitioning to Digital Economy.” He acknowledged President Bola Tinubu’s efforts to enhance national security and expressed gratitude for the measures taken to ensure the safety of the people of Kogi.
“We will continue to support President Bola Tinubu and remain steadfast in our efforts until we successfully combat banditry,” he stated, highlighting the collaborative efforts between the federal government and Kogi State to foster a nation and state full of vision and opportunities.

Ododo commended President Tinubu for taking progressive steps to restore Nigeria’s greatness, while also urging those advocating for a return to previous governance to reassess their positions. “Those claiming that Nigerians should take back their nation must realize that Nigeria is already in the hands of its citizens. The critical question is, what should we do with Nigeria?” he remarked.
The governor clarified that Kogi State would not participate in protests against bad governance, citing the positive impacts of the President’s administration and its economic policies. He noted that his administration is focused on developing road infrastructure and investing in food production, stating, “We are protesting through mechanized farming to reduce food costs in the state.”
Governor Ododo asserted that his administration is inclusive and represents all tribes and religions in Kogi State, declaring it a “people’s government.” He concluded by saying, “We are quietly making significant changes in the state. We have joined the Open Government Partnership and are committed to ensuring that Kogi State’s resources benefit its citizens.”
