The Nigeria Immigration Service, NIS, has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing personnel capabilities through extensive training and capacity building, ensuring that ongoing reforms thrive across the nation.
At a decoration ceremony for 15 newly promoted Assistant Comptrollers-General and 95 Comptrollers of Immigration Service in Abuja, Comptroller-General Kemi Nandap emphasized that the recent promotions—awarded to 13,977 officers nationwide—signify not only recognition of achievement but also a call to greater responsibility.
Nandap highlighted her vision of transforming the NIS into a modern, agile organization that meets Nigeria’s unique needs. “Recall that upon my assumption in office as the 19th CGIS in March – this year, I made commitment to ensure staff growth and development.
“I call for unity, teamwork, and a shared sense of purpose among all officers; and charged you to close ranks as well as work collectively toward our shared goal of delivering efficient and effective immigration services to Nigeria,” Nandap said.
She urged the newly promoted officers to embrace their enhanced roles, focusing on border governance, migration management, and the integration of cutting-edge technology into operations, including biometric data systems and electronic gates at airports.

“Your leadership and strategic thinking are essential in addressing the challenges faced by the NIS,” she noted, emphasizing the importance of discipline, professionalism, and integrity. “As you wear your new ranks with pride, remember the weight of responsibility they carry.”
Nandap reiterated the NIS’s zero-tolerance policy toward corruption and unethical conduct, calling on leaders to set high standards for junior officers and foster collaboration with other agencies.
In a statement, Mr. Ja’afaru Ahmed, Secretary of the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board, encouraged the newly promoted officers to strive for excellence in their roles. “The NIS has matured, and you should perform your duties to the best of your abilities,” he said.
Comptroller Nene Orupabo, one of the newly decorated officers, expressed her gratitude and commitment to enhancing the service’s reputation. “I pledge to raise the image of the NIS and contribute to the renewed hope agenda of President Bola Tinubu,” she stated.
