The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of 33-year-old Olayemi Shedrack, a suspect wanted in connection with a series of robberies and sexual assaults targeting female students at Tai Solarin University of Education, TASUED, Ijagun.
In a statement released in Abeokuta, the state’s capital, the Command’s spokesperson, Omolola Odutola, revealed that Shedrack had been on the police’s wanted list for his involvement in the robbery and rape of students. “Acting on a tip-off, Olayemi Olawale Shedrack, aged 33, was spotted in Ijagun attempting to blend in with the crowd, but his true identity was verified through intelligence sources. The police were promptly informed and he was promptly arrested ” she said.
Shedrack is alleged to have led a group of accomplices in an armed robbery and sexual assault on July 21, 2024, at the Royal Villa accommodation at TASUED. The gang reportedly stole valuables including laptops, iPhones, sports watches, and cash from female students before fleeing, after which they also sexually assaulted some of the victims.

Odutola added that a preliminary investigation has been launched, and the suspect is currently being held at the Igbeba police station in Ijebu-Ode for interrogation. The Commissioner of Police, Alamutu Abiodun, has ordered a manhunt for Shedrack ’s accomplices and urged the public to continue providing valuable information to assist the police in capturing the remaining criminals.
“The public can be assured that the suspect will soon be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for thorough investigation and prosecution,” Odutola concluded.
