A two-storey building on Amusu Street, Orile Iganmu, Lagos State, collapsed early Monday morning, causing nearby residents to flee in panic.

Fortunately, no casualties were reported as the building had been evacuated prior to the collapse, according an anonymous official from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene to assess the situation and manage the aftermath. The official confirmed that the evacuation had been completed before the incident, ensuring the safety of all residents. Eyewitnesses reported that the sound of the collapse was deafening and could be heard from blocks away.

Residents expressed their shock and fear as they witnessed the building crumble. Many took to social media to share their experiences and seek information about potential casualties. Local authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant, as structural integrity issues are common in older buildings throughout Lagos.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the collapse. Preliminary reports suggest that heavy rains in the area may have contributed to the structural failure, although this has yet to be confirmed. This incident adds to a troubling trend of building collapses in Lagos, raising concerns about construction standards and safety regulations in the rapidly urbanizing city.
