Vice President Kashim Shettima has landed in Sweden for a two-day working visit, focused on enhancing trade and bilateral relations between Nigeria and Sweden.
Accompanied by Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang, Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, and key government officials, the Vice President’s trip follows a directive from President Bola Tinubu.
His spokesperson, Stanley Nkwocha, disclosed that Shettima will engage in high-level discussions with Swedish government officials, including Crown Princess Victoria and Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson. The visit aims to foster collaboration in areas such as ICT, education, digitalization, agriculture, sustainable transport, and mining.
The Vice President’s visit also coincides with Nigeria’s broader economic vision, which aims to attract foreign investment and create a conducive environment for business operations. During his meetings, Shettima is expected to articulate the ongoing reforms being implemented by the Nigerian government to enhance the business climate, thereby showcasing the myriad opportunities available in Africa’s largest economy.

A notable aspect of Shettima’s visit is his scheduled meeting with Norrsken, a prominent Stockholm-based venture capital firm that recently launched Norrsken22, a $205 million tech investment fund focused on Africa. This engagement is particularly crucial as it aims to provide insights into how Nigerian entrepreneurs can leverage this fund to bolster their businesses and contribute to the growth of Nigeria’s technology ecosystem. Norrsken has indicated that approximately 40% of its investments will be directed towards Nigerian tech entrepreneurs, highlighting the potential for significant financial support.
In addition to discussions with governmental figures, Shettima will also interact with representatives from twelve Nigerian private sector companies that are independently engaging in business activities in Sweden. This collective presence underscores the growing interest of Nigerian businesses in international markets and their desire to forge partnerships that can enhance their operational capabilities.
Vice President Shettima’s visit to Sweden represents a strategic effort by Nigeria to strengthen its international ties and attract investment across multiple sectors. By engaging directly with Swedish leaders and investors, Shettima aims not only to promote Nigeria’s economic agenda but also to build lasting partnerships that can drive mutual growth. As he embarks on this diplomatic mission, the outcomes will likely play a pivotal role in shaping future collaborations between Nigeria and Sweden.
The Vice President is expected to return to Nigeria on Saturday.
