No fewer than fifteen people were killed as gunmen attacked two communities in Anambra on Sunday.

The attack took place at Nibo community during the celebration of the Onwa ASAA Festival, as well as in the Okpuno community, both in the Awka South Local Government Area of the state.

The gunfire caused panic and chaos, with people fleeing in different directions to escape the violence.

Police Public Relations Officer at the command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the command received reports on the suspected cult-related clash that occurred on at Nibo, Awka South Local Government.

He said the State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has ordered the immediate deployment of additional operatives to the area for necessary action.

He disclosed that preliminary reports on the incidents were unclear, and the command is urging witnesses to come forward with information that could help identify the perpetrators for possible arrest.

Ikenga assured that any information provided would be treated with the utmost confidentiality.

He urged anyone with relevant information to contact the Command Control Room at 07039194332 or the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) at 08039334002.

Meanwhile, suspected cultists have killed four residents in Edeoha community, located in Ahoada East Local Government Area of Rivers State.

The attackers, believed to be members of the Iceland cult group, reportedly invaded the community around 2 a.m. on Sunday, armed with weapons.

According to reports, the gunmen went door-to-door in search of their targets, causing widespread panic among residents.

A community source, who spoke anonymously, said the motive for the attack remains unclear.

He said: “The whole community was in confusion when they came and started shooting. Three of those killed are natives of Edeoha while the other one is native of Ekata community still in Aboada East LGA but resides in Edeoha.
