Controversial social media activist, Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan has apologised to the Nigeria Police Force for wearing its uniform for content creation.
In now-viral footage, the social media personality wore a police uniform and introduced himself as a “chief superintendent of police of the Online Division”.
The activist also expressed his commitment to sanitize social media by exposing online oppressors and vendors.
The police had launched an investigation to determine the source of the police gear used and the authority under which the activist acted.
In a follow-up Instagram video, VeryDarkMan said he just returned from the police station where he was interrogated based on the controversial footage.
The activist emphasized that he didn’t intend to impersonate the police. He also offered his “unreserved apologies” to the law enforcement agency.
VeryDarkMan advised the public to seek permission from law enforcement agencies before using “attire resembling their uniforms”.

“Back from the police station where I was interrogated based on the post I made wearing a costume that the police claim is similar to theirs,” he wrote.
“I didn’t intend to impersonate the police in any way and I tender my unreserved apologies to the Nigeria police force and the office of the inspector general of police…
“I will like to use the medium to tell the general public to always seek permission from the police or other law enforcement agencies before using anything that might look like their uniform.
“You might want to use it for good but there are others that might want to use it for bad, so it’s good to get full approval before using anything that might seem impersonating @nigeriapoliceforce and also shout out to my lawyer @adeyanjudeji who is always ready to stand.”
