Led by Comrade Sylva Nwaiwu, National Chairman of the National Union of Contributory Pensioners, the protesters demanded the immediate release of their entitlements.

Accrued rights represent pension benefits accumulated under the old scheme before the Contributory Pension Scheme was introduced in 2004. According to the Pension Act, these entitlements were supposed to be transferred to the Pension Fund Administrators of each federal government retiree.
Comrade Nwaiwu stated that numerous retirees who left service as far back as 2003 have not received these payments, preventing them from accessing their pension funds. Further details on the protest are expected.
