Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali announced the passing of his father on Instagram, sharing a heartfelt tribute on Friday, November 15.
In his post, Nwabali kept the details private, expressing his grief with a simple, poignant message: “R.I.P Dad,” accompanied by a tearful emoji.
Condolences and messages of support have poured in from fans, teammates, and the football community, who are rallying behind Nigeria’s top goalkeeper during this difficult time.
The news comes shortly after the Super Eagles secured their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Morocco, where Nwabali played a crucial role in helping his team reach the milestone.

Nwabili earned his first cap for the Nigerian national team in 2021, in an international friendly match against Mexico in Los Angeles, United States.
In December 2023, he was called up for the 2023 AFCON in Ivory Coast. He was named Man of the Match in the semi-final encounter against South Africa, as he saved two penalties in a 4–2 victory during the penalty shootouts following a 1–1 draw, which qualified his country for the final.
