The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has announced an immediate nationwide crackdown on vehicles displaying fake diplomatic and unauthorized number plates.

This directive was issued by the Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, in a statement released by the Corps Public Education Officer, Mr. Olusegun Ogungbemide, on Tuesday in Abuja.

The move is part of efforts to bolster national security and combat fraudulent activities linked to these illegal plates. Investigations have disclosed that the plates, including inscriptions such as “DIPLOMATIC,” “NYCN,” “PEACE AMBASSADOR,” “UN-AMB,” and others, were neither issued by FRSC production plants nor by State Motor Licensing Authorities.

The Corps Marshal has authorized the immediate enforcement to identify, arrest, and impound vehicles displaying such plates. Mohammed further warned the public that these unauthorized plates are often used for criminal activities, urging individuals currently using them to discontinue or risk prosecution.

Additionally, FRSC plans to collaborate with other security agencies to trace and prosecute the sources of the fake plates. Owners of vehicles caught with these plates will also be prosecuted as accomplices.

“The Corps is resolute in ensuring the nation’s security is not compromised by unscrupulous individuals driven by financial gain,” Mohammed stated, emphasizing the FRSC’s commitment to curbing the menace.

The public is encouraged to report sightings of vehicles with such plates to law enforcement agencies to aid in the crackdown.
