The Ruruma community in Kaduna state, Kauru Local Government Area is seeking a military base in Kwassam to combat ongoing banditry, frequent killings and kidnapping.

This plea was conveyed through a statement issued by the community’s National President, Mr. Daniel Dallah who stressed the critical need for a military presence to swiftly intervene and restore peace, thereby protecting the lives and property of residents, noting that numerous individuals have been displaced over time due to the persistent violence.

“Setting up a military unit in Kwassam would allow displaced families to return to their ancestral lands, where they once cultivated farms and harvested agricultural produce. Presently, our traditional leader, Dauda Abdulsalam, the Pugom Kumana, has been unable to return to his home for years following an assassination attempt by bandits,” Dallah said.

He also voiced his deep concern regarding the exclusion of Kwassam and its surrounding vulnerable areas from the security reports that were submitted by the Executive Chairman of Kauru Local Government Area to the General Officer Commanding of the 3rd Division in Jos. This omission raises significant worries about the safety and security of the residents in these communities, as it suggests that their plight may not be receiving the attention it deserves.

“Without proper acknowledgment in these reports, the ongoing threats posed by banditry and other criminal activities in Kwassam and nearby areas could be overlooked, leaving the local population vulnerable to further violence and insecurity. The community’s call for inclusion in these security assessments highlights the urgent need for greater awareness and action to protect their lives and livelihoods.

”The establishment of a military base in Kwassam, the heart of the Ruruma community, would be beneficial not only to the Kumana Chiefdom but also to neighboring villages such as Dokan Karji, Sabon Gida Libere, Maikudumi, Fili, Unguwan Nabara, Mahuta, Sabon Layi, Kan’makama, Ungwan Isah, Ruwan Sanyi, Ungwan Danja, Ungwan Maizuma, Ungwan Zango, Ungwan Gayya, Ungwan Garkuwa, and Nasarawa, all of which lack both military and police presence,” Dallah pointed out.

He reiterated the community’s readiness to collaborate with security forces and the government, urging the Federal Government to enhance its support for Governor Sen. Uba Sani as he works to address the community’s security challenges.
