Afrobeat superstar, David Adeleke popularly known as Davido has come under heavy criticisms over his negative comments on living conditions in Africa.

Davido, in a recent interview, had issued a stern warning to black Americans against relocating to Africa.

He warned them against making such moves, as he made them know that it wasn’t cool in Africa as the economy was in shambles.

The singer however, made it known that he wasn’t badmouthing Africa; rather, he wanted to show off the little parts and leave the slums out of the frame.

Reacting to these comments on the latest edition of Your View on TVC, Akashat Nymat, a presenter questioned what service Davido has done for the masses, as she noted how American celebrities wouldn’t badmouth their country to foreigners.

She stated that if the singer can show her two or three companies where he is producing rice, beans, and other local foods, then he should be mindful of what he says.

Nymat urged the singer to be more guarded in his utterances, especially about the country that has given him fame.

“Has he done a service to the average Nigerians inside Ede? Who is in the bush trying to get food? Has he bought everything they needed with rice farms in Bida? No! He hasn’t. He has come to lose truth of the Elite.

“The people who spend dollars for food are proper, not those who buy beans for pain.

“We know that this country is hard and that the reforms were forced on us because if we had continued to feed the elite, it would be worse off.

“We’re suffering under that weight, and what you can say is, “It’s hard here.

“During the elections in America, an opera would sing at the election, but she wouldn’t sit on a show or sit at a table and tell a foreign interviewer what Davido did.

“That’s wrong. Because you say there, now your reference point for whether they should go ahead and invest in the country.

“See the point is, no matter how true your truth is, if it’s not going to be of service to your people. It is in the corridors where he could give that one privately, but he chose to tell Americans can’t come here, whereas what we need is foreign investors. That’s what how government has said we need.

“Except Davido can show me two or three companies where he produces beans, rice, and local foods for the local man, he can’t be talking to anyhow. I don’t see any service he has done.

“Davido is a person of influence and should be more guarded in his utterances, especially about the country that has given him that fame,” the presenter fumes.

Also, former aide to Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri slammed Davido, questioning how the economy was in shambles when Wizkid broke streaming records on Spotify Nigeria with his new album, Morayo. He told Davido to fact-check as he noted how people don’t have disposable income in an economy that is in shambles.

Reno urged Davido to learn from American singer Rihanna, who never talks down on her country, and instead uses her celebrity status to promote Barbados and project it positively to the world. He stated that the singer displayed ignorance and a lack of patriotism with that statement and expressed how disappointed he was over his comment.

Similarly, veteran Nollywood actor Patrick Doyle took to social media to knock  Davido for saying Nigeria economy is in shambles.

Actor Patrick Doyle refers to the singer as “an incredibly dense person” for telling foreigners not to visit a country where his father has a $2billion dollar power generation investment.

He said: “You have to be incredibly dense to ask foreigners not to visit a country where your father has a $2 Billion Dollar power generation investment. Some persons ought to know much better.”
