The Kogi State Government has ordered the immediate closure of Zango Market in Osara, Adavi Local Government Area, citing rising security concerns in the area.

In a statement on Wednesday, Kingsley Fanwo, the State Commissioner for Information, also announced a ban on roadside parking of trucks near the market. The move aims to address potential threats to the community and the nearby Confluence State University of Science and Technology.

Fanwo explained that intelligence reports disclosed criminal elements were using the market as a hideout, often with the cooperation of truck drivers who park along the roadside. This situation, he noted, poses a serious security threat to both the university and the broader Osara community.

“To prevent a potential security crisis, the government has issued a one-week grace period for compliance with these directives, after which enforcement will be fully implemented,” Fanwo stated.

Governor Alhaji Usman Ododo has directed the Secretary to the State Government to notify all stakeholders, including law enforcement agencies, about the measures. Additionally, the Office of the State Security Adviser has been tasked with overseeing security operations in the affected areas during and after the grace period.

The government reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property, emphasizing its proactive stance against criminal activities.

“We commend citizens for their vigilance and active role in grassroots security networks. Your contributions are vital to our shared mission of keeping Kogi safe,” the statement added.
