The Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC, has responded to a viral video showing a Deputy Route Commander allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.
The Corps Marshal, Malam Shehu Mohammed, clarified in a statement by Assistant Corps Marshal Olusegun Ogungbemide on Wednesday in Abuja that the incident occurred in 2018 and had been promptly addressed.
Mohammed condemned the officer’s behavior, highlighting FRSC’s commitment to maintaining discipline among personnel. “The irresponsible conduct of the officer was thoroughly investigated, and disciplinary actions were taken under the then Corps Marshal’s leadership,” he stated.
He further disclosed that the officer involved passed away on November 6, 2024, following a long illness, calling for sensitivity and accuracy in the dissemination of information online.

Mohammed also urged the public to verify the status and implications of information before sharing it, noting the psychological impact on the deceased officer’s family. “We commend prompt news reportage but advise verifying content to avoid recycling outdated events as fresh news,” he added.
The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to transparency, stating that disciplinary actions against the officer were made public at the time of the incident.
The Corps Marshal appealed to social media users to exercise caution in sharing sensitive or outdated content to prevent undue harm.
