Nigerian Grammy Award-winning artist, Burna Boy, has reacted to criticisms on his bad behaviour at the 2025 Greater Lagos Countdown concert, where he kicked a fan who jumped onto the stage during his performance.

The incident occurred on Tuesday night during Burna Boy’s set at the #GreaterLagosCountdown2025 event, and quickly sparked backlash from fans and critics.

Many deemed the singer’s reaction as unprofessional, with some labeling it as arrogant behavior.

However, Burna Boy responded to the criticism in an Instagram post on Wednesday evening, explaining that he has Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder , PTSD,  which can be triggered by sudden, intense events.

He clarified that the fan’s intrusion on stage startled him, leading to the incident.

Burna Boy further stated that he has a long-standing rule about not allowing fans on stage during his performances and urged them to respect this boundary.

He wrote: “It was a free show. I was supposed to do 10 minutes and did almost an hour.Everybody knows my rule about getting on stage and startling me when I am performing. I had an amazing time with Lagos State last night.Don’t jump on stage like that! I got PTSD. I love you all. Happy New Year.”

The 2025 Greater Lagos Countdown, which took place at the iconic Tafawa Balewa Square, also featured stunning performances from other Nigerian superstars like Wizkid.

The event, organized by the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, under Toke Benson-Awoyinka, was a spectacular display of music, culture, and celebration.

Benson Awoyinka highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing how it brought together the diverse people of Lagos in a shared celebration of the state’s vibrant spirit.

“This end-of-year celebration is more than an event; it is a tribute to the dynamic spirit of Lagos and its people. With music, dance, food, and a breathtaking fireworks display, we are dedicated to creating an unforgettable experience for everyone,”she said.
