The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited and First Exploration & Petroleum Development Company have recorded a 96% reduction in routine gas flaring from the Anyala and Madu fields offshore Bayelsa State.
This achievement comes from a new gas reinjection strategy, which redirects associated gas into an underground storage reservoir at the Madu field instead of releasing it into the atmosphere.
This approach significantly cuts environmental impact and aligns with Nigeria’s environmental regulations and global sustainability goals.
NNPC’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, emphasized that the milestone demonstrates the company’s dedication to responsible resource management and sustainable energy production.
Ademola Adeyemi-Bero, Managing Director of First E&P, highlighted the company’s commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and creating a cleaner energy future for both the environment and local communities.
Building on this success, the joint venture is now focused on commercializing the stored gas and other stranded gas resources in the Niger Delta, further supporting Nigeria’s energy security and economic growth.
