Afenifere leader, Chief Ayo Adebanjo has died at the age of 96.

He passed on Friday at his residence in Lekki, Lagos, the family announced.

Born Samuel Ayodele Adebanjo, the elder statesman dedicated his life to the pursuit of justice, equity, and true federalism. A distinguished lawyer and politician, he served as the organising secretary of Action Group and later emerged as the national leader of Afenifere, a Yoruba socio-political organization.

He was an advocate for good governance and a united Nigeria. His unwavering commitment to democracy and progressive ideals made him a respected voice in national discourse.

Pa Adebanjo is survived by his 94-year-old wife, Chief Christy Ayo-Adebanjo, as well as children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

His passing marks the end of an era, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations.

The family has begun consultations with his friends, associates, and key interest groups to organize a befitting funeral. Further details will be communicated in due course.

A condolence register has been opened at his Lagos residence at 8 Ayo Adebanjo Close, Lekki Phase 1, and at his country home in Isanya Ogbo, near Ijebu Ode, Ogun State.
