In a move to strengthen its internal structure, the All Progressives Congress, APC, has inaugurated a seven-member committee to oversee the expansion of its National Executive Committee, NEC.
The committee is chaired by Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, a former Chairman of the Caretaker Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee.
Speaking after the NEC meeting at the party’s national secretariat in Abuja, APC spokesperson Felix Morka stated that the panel will develop guidelines for onboarding new NEC members to ensure broader stakeholder representation.
Governor Buni’s selection for this role reflects the party’s trust in his leadership and experience. His tenure as the head of the CECPC was instrumental in stabilizing the party, successfully organizing a national convention, and ensuring a seamless leadership transition.
At the meeting, the NEC passed a vote of confidence in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration and National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje.
Morka noted that the party acknowledged their efforts in fostering unity and advancing national progress.
“NEC also passed a vote of confidence on our National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for the remarkable successes he has achieved in holding the party together and creating avenues for collaboration among members,” Morka said.
The NEC also approved the party’s audited financial statements and budget, reinforcing its commitment to transparency.
This was the first NEC meeting under President Tinubu’s leadership, with key attendees including Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen, APC Governors, and other top stakeholders.
By placing Governor Buni at the helm of this strategic committee, the APC aims to build on his legacy of reforms and inclusivity, positioning the party for future political challenges.
