Self-acclaimed prophet, Ebuka Obi of Zion Prayer Movement Outreach, is entangled in another controversy as a woman who testified in his church admitted to fabricating her claim of purchasing a N500 million mansion.

In a trending video, the woman—who had initially told a dramatic story of rising from a struggling trader to owning a luxury home—was interrogated and confessed that her testimony was staged. The property’s rightful owner reportedly got her arrested for falsely claiming it.

This is not the first time Obi has faced allegations of orchestrating fake miracles. In 2023, he was accused of staging a healing with late Nollywood actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who eventually passed away March 2024, after undergoing multiple surgeries and a leg amputation.

Beyond the fake testimonies, critics have accused Obi of exploiting his congregation for financial gain. Blogger Chizorom Harrison Ofoegbu, known as Ijele Speaks II, publicly called out the pastor for turning his ministry into a business, labeling his miracles as deceitful.

Ofoegbu’s comments led to his detention by the Nigeria Police Force in March 2024 after Obi accused him of criminal intimidation, cyberstalking, and threats to life. Despite facing legal battles, the blogger secured bail in June 2024 after a ruling by Justice Akintayo Aluko of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

The latest scandal has reignited debates over the unchecked activities of self-styled prophets, raising concerns about the influence of religious leaders who allegedly manipulate faith for personal enrichment.
