Nollywood actress Ayo Adesanya has shared her painful experience in a toxic relationship that lasted for ten years, disclosing the emotional and physical abuse she endured.

In a recent interview with media personality Chude Jideonwo, Adesanya disclosed that although she was never married to her partner, she stayed in the relationship due to fear of public judgment.

She recounted the cycle of abuse, describing how she was often beaten, only for her partner to later beg for forgiveness, leaving her confused and emotionally drained.

“I stayed because, being an actress, I didn’t want people to blame me for the breakup,” she explained. “However, we were not married; we were just together for 10 years.”

The abuse led to severe depression, and in an attempt to cope, Adesanya turned to alcohol. She confessed to drinking excessively to numb the pain, sneaking bottles of Brandy and drinking alone in secret.

“I would drink a whole bottle; I was a drunk. I didn’t want to feel the beating or hear anything he said,” she shared.

Her escape came after a recurring dream, which she believes was a sign to leave. In the dream, she saw a car moving backward, with people urging her to leave as it was “her time for glory.”

Finally, with the support of her sister, Adesanya packed her things, took her son, and left one fateful night when her partner was out.

Though she had tried to leave three times before, this was the moment she found the strength to escape for good.

“I told one of my sisters what I was going through and asked her to help me. That night, he went to the club, and it was a saving grace. At midnight, Lara came, I packed my things, took my son, and left,” she said.

Adesanya was previously in a relationship with Nollywood actor Goriola Hassan, with whom she has a son.
