Spiritual leader Satguru Maharaj Ji has issued a strong condemnation of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, demanding that he tender a public apology to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigerians within seven days for calling the President an “Agbero President” during an interview on Arise TV.
The remark, which refers to the Yoruba slang for a street thug or hoodlum, has sparked widespread criticism. Maharaj Ji insists that regardless of personal opinions, Tinubu, as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, must be accorded the respect due to his office.
‘Disrespecting the President is disrespecting Nigerians’
Maharaj Ji argues that El-Rufai’s attack on Tinubu is not just an insult to the President but to the entire nation. He stressed that once Tinubu assumed the role of Nigeria’s leader, he became a symbol of national unity and governance, making any derogatory statement against him an affront to all Nigerians.
The spiritual leader accused El-Rufai of failing to distinguish between Tinubu as an individual and Tinubu as Nigeria’s leader. He stated that the former governor’s history of verbal attacks on past Presidents, including Goodluck Jonathan and Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, demonstrates a pattern of disrespect for the country’s highest office.
Maharaj Ji went further, saying that there are spiritual and karmic consequences for such actions. He referenced past events where El-Rufai suffered personal losses after making derogatory comments about previous leaders, suggesting that similar consequences could follow if he continues to attack Tinubu.
Allegations of Corruption, insecurity, ethnic bias
Beyond the controversy surrounding the insult, Maharaj Ji also raised deeper concerns about El-Rufai’s leadership record, accusing him of contributing to Nigeria’s instability. He highlighted allegations of corruption, insecurity, and religious discrimination during El-Rufai’s time in office.
Maharaj Ji referenced the ongoing probe by the Kaduna State House of Assembly, which has alleged that ₦423 billion was misappropriated during El-Rufai’s tenure as governor. He insisted that the former governor must be held accountable for public funds and called for a judicial commission of inquiry into his administration.

He further accused El-Rufai of enabling insecurity in Kaduna by allegedly negotiating with bandits and funding groups responsible for violence in the state. He referenced the case of kidnapped Greenfield University students, some of whom were killed despite ransom payments, questioning El-Rufai’s role in the crisis.
Maharaj Ji also criticized El-Rufai’s handling of Kaduna’s ethnic and religious diversity, accusing him of marginalizing certain communities and forcing traditional institutions under new emirates without legal backing. He alleged that El-Rufai’s policies were driven by religious extremism and a desire to dominate non-Fulani groups in the state.
‘El-Rufai must Face the law’
The spiritual leader did not stop at demanding an apology but also called on Tinubu’s administration to take action against El-Rufai. He urged the President to issue an executive order mandating all those who looted Nigeria’s wealth to return stolen funds or face the full wrath of the law.
He insisted that El-Rufai should be investigated not only for corruption but also for alleged crimes against humanity, including the mass killings and kidnappings that occurred in Kaduna under his watch. Maharaj Ji described El-Rufai as a politician with no conscience, alleging that he prioritized personal and ethnic interests over national unity and stability.
The call for national unity
Maharaj Ji concluded by beckoning on Nigerians to resist divisive politics, stating that President Tinubu’s administration is working to unite all ethnic and religious groups in the country. He accused some political actors of deliberately trying to destabilize Tinubu’s government to prevent progress and reforms.
He warned that the era of using security forces and media influence to suppress truth and manipulate Nigerians is over, as the country is on the path of an “African Renaissance” where justice, accountability, and development will take center stage.
With the deadline for El-Rufai’s apology approaching, all eyes are now on the former governor to see if he will respond or remain silent in the face of growing public scrutiny.
