Two bodies have been recovered from the wreckage of a two-storey building which collapsed on Wednesday at Oriwu Estate in Lagos, where several individuals were trapped.
The incident occurred at approximately 4:00 PM, and emergency responders swiftly launched rescue operations.
Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, confirmed that six individuals sustained various injuries, while 14 people were rescued.
LASEMA’s response team was activated after distress calls were received on the state’s emergency toll-free lines at 2:25 PM.
Teams were dispatched from the Lekki and Cappa bases to the scene in the Ikota area of Ajah. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation.

However, initial reports confirmed the extrication of two adult males from the debris. Six other seriously injured males were given immediate medical attention by the Lagos State Ambulance Service before being transported to Marina General Hospital for further treatment.
Lagos State Police Command spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, also confirmed the incident and stated that police and rescue teams were promptly mobilized to the site.
He added that the 14 rescued victims were taken to Lagos Island General Hospital for treatment.
Security personnel are still stationed at the scene to maintain order as the rescue efforts continue.
Further investigations into the collapse are expected to determine the underlying cause of the incident.
