The Nigeria Police Force, NPF, witnessed a major leadership transition on Thursday as the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, decorated six newly appointed Deputy Inspectors-General of Police, DIGs, and one Assistant Inspector-General of Police, AIG, .
The decoration ceremony, held at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, followed the retirement of six senior DIGs on March 3 after 35 years of service. The newly appointed officers bring vast experience from various police formations across the country.
Those decorated as DIGs include Sadiq Idiris Abubakar, former Commandant of the Police Academy, Wudil, Kano; Benjamin Nebolisa Okolo, former AIG of the Department of ICT, Force Headquarters, Abuja; Williams Adebowale, former Commandant of the Police Staff College, Jos; Bzigu Yakubu Kwazi Bali, former AIG of the FCID Annex, Enugu; Idegwu Basil Ukuoma, former AIG of Zone 14, Katsina; and Adebola Ayinde Hamzat, former AIG of Zone 16, Yenagoa. Also decorated was AIG Kanayo Uzuegbu, who previously served as the Commissioner of Police for Enugu State.
While addressing the newly appointed officers, the IGP congratulated them and charged them to uphold the core values of integrity, professionalism, and service. He stressed the importance of earning public confidence and ensuring effective policing across the country.
With their new responsibilities, the officers are expected to drive key reforms and strengthen security operations nationwide.
