The President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, IPU, Tulia Ackson has promised that the Nigerian Senate would have an opportunity to present its side before making any decisions regarding the suspension of Kogi Central Senator, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan.
Speaking during a session, Ackson acknowledged the concerns raised by Akpoti-Uduaghan who yesterday submitted a petition to the Union regarding her dispute with Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
“We have heard her concerns, and it serves us better to understand more about what she has said,” Ackson stated. “But as an institution, we must also listen to the other side before taking any necessary steps.”
Senator Natasha had reported her suspension to the IPU, describing it as “illegal” and a setback for women’s representation in Nigerian politics.

She explained that she was suspended on March 6 after submitting a petition against Senate President Godswill Akpabio over alleged sexual harassment.
Her suspension, she said, came with harsh conditions, including the withdrawal of her security detail, removal of her staff, salary suspension, and a ban from the National Assembly for six months.
“I was silenced and suspended for demanding accountability,” Natasha stated. “This is not just about me—women make up only 2.8% of the Senate. My suspension reflects the challenges women face in Nigeria’s political space.”
