The Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, OSGF, has distanced itself from the corruption allegations made by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC against Andrew Torhile Uchi, the Personal Assistant to the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator George Akume.

In a statement issued on Monday, the OSGF clarified that it has no connection to the case currently under investigation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC.

Uchi is being questioned over allegations of bribery, money laundering, and illegal acquisition of properties worth billions of naira.

The OSGF emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity, stressing that the alleged misconduct does not reflect the values upheld by the office. It assured the public that it remains dedicated to ethical governance and would not tolerate any form of corruption within its ranks.

The EFCC is investigating claims that Uchi used fraudulent means to acquire multiple properties across Abuja, Jos, Makurdi, Gboko, and Wannune in Tarka Local Government Area of Benue State. There are also reports that over N1.6 billion was funneled through various bank accounts to purchase luxury vehicles from car dealers in Abuja, Kaduna, Lagos, Jos, and Makurdi.

Further inquiries have placed two Bureau de Change operators under scrutiny for allegedly facilitating suspicious financial transactions linked to Uchi. Investigators are working to trace the origins of the funds and determine if they were proceeds of corrupt practices.

While acknowledging the EFCC’s ongoing probe, the OSGF called on the public to refrain from speculation, stating that conclusions should not be drawn until investigations are completed. It urged citizens to allow the anti-graft agency to carry out its duties without interference.

“The leadership of this Office is not in any way involved in the alleged misconduct. We recognize the EFCC’s role in ensuring accountability and trust that the necessary legal steps will be taken against anyone found guilty,” the statement, signed by Segun Imohiosen, Director of Information and Public Relations, read in part.

The OSGF also assured Nigerians that it would continue to support all anti-corruption efforts while maintaining a high level of integrity in public service. It expressed appreciation for the public’s patience and trust as the case unfolds.

Meanwhile, Uchi remains in EFCC custody as investigations intensify. The Commission is expected to expand its probe into his financial records and real estate acquisitions across the country.

Efforts to reach EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale for comments have been unsuccessful, as his phone lines remain unavailable. The agency is expected to provide further updates as the probe progresses.
